The starting point
What is the inventory worth when sold, and what does that mean for the risk to be insured?
The corporate reinsurer of a life-sciences group needed insurance-relevant inventory values for each country and company across the organization. The assignment was closely connected to PROVADIT’s inventory reporting activities. It brought that information into a report designed for the reinsurer’s valuation needs.
Global inventory optimization asks how much stock the business needs and where. Insurance reporting asks what that stock is worth when sold, how much risk the organization is prepared to retain, and whether local policies already cover a potential loss. These questions require a different valuation perspective on the same inventory.
Our contribution
PROVADIT’s contribution
PROVADIT created a report that automatically provides the insurance-relevant inventory value by country and company. Automatic updates incorporate the latest sales prices relevant to insurance valuation. The report connects the existing inventory reporting context with a specific information need in corporate reinsurance.
Connect inventory reporting with the insurance requirement
Use the inventory reporting context to provide the values needed by the corporate reinsurer across the organization.
Apply the relevant sales-price basis
Include the latest insurance-relevant sales prices in the automatically updated report.
Provide the country and company view
Make insurance-relevant inventory values available for each country and company through the report, reducing recurring manual alignment.
Inside the work
Sales value, retained risk and local coverage.
Three questions shape the insurance view. The report supplies the current inventory values by country and company that inform this discussion.
What is our inventory worth when sold?
Insurance-relevant sales prices provide a different perspective from simply reducing stock. The report incorporates the latest relevant prices in its automatic updates.
How much risk do we accept?
The organization must consider how much potential loss it is prepared to retain. Inventory values provide an input for that decision; the report does not make the risk decision itself.
Do local policies already cover a loss?
Existing local insurance matters when assessing what still needs to be covered. The country and company view provides a basis for that discussion alongside the relevant policy information.
Deliverables
The work delivered. The decisions it supports.
The report already reduces manual alignment effort. Automatically updated values give the corporate reinsurer a recurring source for its inventory reporting needs, with the insurance-relevant sales-price basis included.
- A report covering insurance-relevant inventory values by country and company across the organization.
- Automatic updates that incorporate the latest insurance-relevant sales prices.
- Less manual alignment when providing inventory values to the corporate reinsurer.
Engagement context
PROVADIT delivered the inventory valuation report and its automatic updates. It provides a data basis for insurance discussions; decisions on retained risk and the assessment of local policy coverage remain with the responsible insurance teams.
What this illustrates
The same inventory data supports different decisions. Global inventory optimization focuses on stock levels and allocation. Insurance reporting brings sales-based value into discussions about retained risk and existing local coverage. The report makes that valuation perspective available by country and company.
