Pharma & Life Sciences

Pharma & life sciences: reliable supply and planning

Long production and release cycles can limit how quickly pharmaceutical companies respond to demand changes. Quality requirements and shelf life also affect when inventory can be used. Planning must distinguish stock on hand from stock ready for use.

The key question

How can you strengthen supply chain resilience without holding more inventory than necessary?

Industry challenges

Lead times and quality release
A batch may be physically in stock while still awaiting testing or release. Planning needs realistic manufacturing, quality-release and replenishment times.
Resilience, shelf life and working capital
Targeted inventory buffers can help absorb supply disruptions. Their size needs to reflect demand uncertainty, replenishment times and shelf life. Excess stock ties up capital and may expire before it can be used.
Consistent inventory figures
Supply Chain, Finance and Commercial need agreed definitions of inventory quantities and values. Shared definitions help teams compare targets and scenarios using the same figures.

How PROVADIT can help

We calculate inventory targets, test planning assumptions and compare scenarios. We help teams assess excess stock and define the data, interfaces and planning tools they need. Your quality and regulatory teams provide the requirements the solution must meet.

Relevant project experience

We developed an inventory model and a data interface for a planning cockpit. In a separate assignment, we supported an inventory and planning transformation, including an assessment of the planning-tool landscape. A further project involved an inventory and write-off data layer with Databricks and dbt.

Our wider life-sciences experience includes over-the-counter products and agriculture, with work on inventory projections and integration involving OMP and Kinaxis. Planning assumptions depend on the product and business model.

Automotive & Mobility

Automotive: material flows and IT platform decisions

Just-in-time supply relies on materials arriving when production needs them. Changes in demand, suppliers or product variants must be reflected in planning. At the same time, software platforms and development tools need to support the company’s product strategy.

The key question

How do you keep material flows and planning systems aligned with production needs?

Industry challenges

Just-in-time supply and production requirements
The case for a buffer depends on how critical a part is, how long replenishment takes and what a supply disruption would mean for production. The aim is to protect the flows where an interruption would have the greatest impact.
Keeping plans and systems aligned
Demand changes, new variants and supplier changes affect planning data and connected systems. Clear responsibilities and reliable interfaces help teams assess the consequences and update their plans.
Choosing development platforms
Which platforms should be kept, improved or replaced? Comparing technical fit, business benefit and transition effort helps teams set priorities for software development and delivery.

How PROVADIT can help

We clarify requirements, compare scenarios and assess options against agreed criteria. For IT strategy, this means evaluating architecture, business benefit and the steps needed to reach the target setup. Business and technical teams work through the choices together.

Relevant project experience

For an automotive supplier, we worked on DevSecOps platform strategy, jointly authored a study on software build and deployment pipelines (CI/CD), and developed the platforms’ value proposition. We also compared strategic options using weighted criteria and scenarios, and facilitated working groups across business and technology.

Chemicals, Flavors & Fragrances

Chemicals: connected processes and research data

Bulk chemicals, specialty batches and formulation research have different planning needs. Raw materials, production capacity and product properties affect what is possible. Research teams also need reliable links between materials, samples and results.

The key question

How do you bring material, process and research data together to support better decisions?

Industry challenges

Raw materials and connected production
In integrated chemical production, the output of one process can feed another. A shortage of raw materials or energy can therefore affect several production stages. Planning scenarios need to show these knock-on effects.
Batches, changeovers and storage
In campaign production, batch sizes, production sequence and cleaning times affect available capacity. Plans also need to account for which materials can be stored together and how they can be transported safely.
Connecting research data
In flavors and fragrances, teams need to connect raw materials, formulations, samples and research results. When those records sit in separate applications, it becomes harder to trace relationships and keep information up to date.

How PROVADIT can help

We clarify which data your teams need, how it should be connected and which applications should support their work. Our research projects combine data integration and application modernization with user acceptance testing and knowledge transfer.

Relevant project experience

Our experience in flavors and fragrances includes a research data warehouse on Oracle Cloud, modernization of a raw-material and product application with Oracle APEX, and digital sample-request workflows. These projects focus on research data and specialist applications.

Additional experience

Inventory reporting for corporate reinsurance

For a life-sciences group’s corporate reinsurer, we built a report that provides insurance-relevant inventory values by country and company. Automatic updates use the latest relevant sales prices and reduce manual alignment. The focus is what inventory is worth when sold, how much risk the company retains and what local insurance already covers. The report provides inventory values to support those discussions.
