The starting point

How can an established research application meet changing business requirements?

A research organization used an established raw-material and product database. Its modernization brought together the underlying data model, the Oracle APEX interface and the ways people entered and worked with information.

A long-used specialist application carries business knowledge in its data structures and working routines. Updating it requires understanding both. In this engagement, the research database and its interface were considered together with how users entered, copied and accessed information, and how existing data would move into the revised setup.

Our contribution

PROVADIT’s contribution

PROVADIT contributed to the modernization of the application and its data foundation. The work covered data entry, copying and duplication functions, authorization controls, data migration and cleansing. Requirements, user acceptance testing and training formed part of the documented project work.

  1. Connect requirements and data

Translate the needs of research users into adjustments to the data model and application.

  2. Refine everyday interactions

Develop the data-entry interface, copying and duplication functions and access controls.

  3. Prepare the transition

Support data migration and cleansing, user acceptance testing and training.

Inside the work

Modernization reaches beyond the interface.

The documented scope links the structure of the information with the way researchers work with it and the preparation for transition.

  1. Data structure

The raw-material and product database and its model form the foundation of the application.

  2. User workflows

Data entry, copying, duplication and authorization determine how teams interact with that information.

  3. Transition

Migration, cleansing, user acceptance testing and training connect the revised application with its users.

Deliverables

The work delivered. The decisions it supports.

The modernization connected changes to the research application with its data model and the preparation for transition. Revised input functions, copying workflows and access controls were considered alongside migration, testing and training, keeping the application’s specialist purpose at the center of the work.

  • An updated application and data model for the research database.
  • Revised data-entry functions and authorization controls.
  • Migration, testing and training work supporting the transition.

Engagement context

The engagement focused on modernizing the established research application and its underlying data foundation.

What this illustrates

Application modernization involves business logic, data and everyday use together. Examining these connections helps define what should change and what can be retained.
